Things About Me, The Blog, and The Random Stuff That I Want To Talk About

Now, I’ve been meaning to write something on the blog for a long time. I just don’t know what exactly to write. Some may call it a “creator’s or writer’s block”, but the thing is, I was never really a creator or a writer.

This is ironic seeing that my job description is literally an “editor”; even if it is for alt-text.

Anyway, this is just going to be a random post where I’m just going to write whatever comes to mind, what all I’m doing, and the things that I’ve got planned in my pipeline. Nobody’s asked for this, so, if you don’t want to read, that’s totally fine and I understand! But, if you do read, please feel free to let me know what you think and if you relate to anything or if you have anything to offer. I appreciate anything and everything.

What do I do?

Well, in short, I’m an editor at a company that is in the education accessibility field, especially for the blind or visually disabled.

What we do is provide conceptually sound and concise descriptions for all the images in any given book. The end goal is to remove the bias that exists between the normal and challenged students. So, we make sure to provide only what the image demands and nothing from our own understanding, inferences, or conclusions.

So, being an editor, my job is to make sure that what the authors have described makes sense, has proper flows, and is grammatically correct. I’m not going to lie, but it is a challenging job. I started out as an author for a physics title and soon got assigned as an editor. Ever since then, for over a year, I’ve worked on titles that were not even close to what I’ve majored in; titles like accounting, computer science, geography, English, and so on.

Update: I no longer work at the company.

Where do I stand academically?

I’ve majored in Physics. Though, to be honest, it’s been over two years, so, I don’t remember a lot, which is also due to my memory being comparable to that of a goldfish: really short-term. Actually, let me rephrase that: I remember the concepts and what most things are, but I can’t formulate, express, or derive things anymore. Not without practice and studying again.

So, with that out of the way, let me also tell you that I do currently have an offer to do my Ph.D. (yay!) at the university that I majored in: Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham. This is really exciting because I’ve always wanted to do a Ph.D. and get into a research field. But unfortunately, I’m currently stuck in quarantine as I tested positive for COVID while traveling to the University. So, I have to wait patiently until I test negative again, and only then will I be able to go to the University and get more information on the “what”s and “how”s of the Ph.D.

Now you might wonder what’s there to even ask about. Well, for one, my job pays more than what I would get as a stipend for my Ph.D., which means that I can fund myself and do my Ph.D. part-time so that I don’t have any financial constraints, while I don’t burden my mother anymore to pay for my tuition.

Update: I have accepted the Ph.D. offer and will be starting the program full-time soon!

Why haven’t I posted anything (OC) on the blog for a long time?

I ask that question myself a lot. I always end up making an excuse that it’s because of my job. While I think that that might be a major reason, I also know that I’m lazy enough to do my research and write at least a paragraph a day. Sigh…

I’m hoping that with this post, I get the motivation and the mindset to write something; something that adds value to someone reading it! Here’s hoping for the best.

But until then, if you haven’t read already, here are a couple of posts that have the most views on my blog!

  1. Kardashev Scale – Humanity’s Future?
  2. Astral Projection – Pseudoscience?

Then what have I been posting on the blog?

Although, I do have been posting weekly news content almost regularly on the blog; ignoring the breaks I’ve been taking since the latter half of 2021, of course. It’s been hard, for sure: having to do a lot of writing/editing on weekdays and then spending hours scouring through a lot of science/tech news, picking the ones that interest me, scheduling them, and then also making posts for the same on Twitter and Instagram for the entire week! Phew. Maybe give me a follow on both Twitter and Instagram! While the information image remains the same across both platforms, the formats are different in essence. On Twitter, I post the link for the original news source as well and on Instagram, I put up a paragraph or two (that gives a more relevant and better idea about the news) from the actual source!

Ever since I moved to a new hosting service and domain, the blog’s reach has reduced a lot. I knew it already, but it still bummed me out regardless. I can’t complain much either since the new hosting is WAY faster than the previous hosting service and the blog is much cleaner and more responsive, so, there’s that.

Again, I’m going to try and be more regular about these as well.

Okay, so, what else?

Well, I’ve been learning how to edit videos, especially on Davinci Resolve. Why? Because I also play games. Casually, of course, but I play nonetheless. So, I’ve also planned to record the games that I play, edit them as needed, and dump them on YouTube on my channel. Nothing fancy, just me playing the game. If people watch, great! If not, no worries.

The goal is to improve my editing skills so that I can also use them more seriously at some point if and when I decide to. Until then, all for fun only.

I’ve also been focusing on personal finance and investing a lot. Why not? If I’m able to achieve financial freedom much earlier than the normal retirement age of 60, then I’d have a lot of time to focus and try out things that interest me or things that I just do as hobbies or fun!

Final thoughts?

With so many things lined up, I’m excited to see where I go from here! Maybe I’ll write follow-up posts for this, updating things as I go. Or this might be just a one-off post. We’ll see! If anyone reads this, do let me know your thoughts.

So, thanks for reading!
